Born into a family of artists in Chichester, Heywood Hardy is widely acknowledged as one of the finest sporting artists of his generation. He began selling small paintings at the age of seventeen and quickly saved enough money to enrol at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. When he returned to England he was commissioned to paint sporting scenes for many aristocratic and landed families.

.Picture has been cleaned and lined and in good presentable condition overall. There is a small paint loss to the left edge and stretcher marks are faintly visible. UV examination reveals areas of scattered retouching to sky around around the master on horseback. Scattered areas of UV flare to foreground lower to left and body of dog on in the lower left corner.
