Circa 1869 Wax Over Pumpkin Head Doll, with moulded blond hair, glass eyes, painted cheeks and lips, on a fabric body with carved lower arms and hands, and legs with blue painted boots, wearing a white cotton robe, 82cm Provenance; this doll was given to Frances Elizabeth Turvey by her Aunt Mary on her 6th birthday, 25 December 1869. Mary had bought the doll in Bath and dressed her herself. Frances' daughter Frances Martha was only allowed to play with the doll at Christmas whilst a child. The doll has stayed in the family when in 1967 she was given to her nephew Alec James Burford for his three daughters, Alison Mary, Susan Jane and Sarah Ann.
