A late 19th century early 20th century bone fan, the monture carved, pierced and clouté, the...

A late 19th century early 20th century bone fan, the monture carved, pierced and clouté, the vibrant double fabric leaf unusually painted with paisley boteh in strong colours, the reserves with flowers in more muted shades. The verso is plain; a bone fan, slightly larger, the plain sticks mounted with a strong ruby silk satin, also plain; a large late 19th early 20th century bone fan, the monture lightly pierced, the cream silk satin leaf painted in pastels with pink and white roses, birds flying amongst. The verso is plain cotton. Guard length 14 inches or 35.5cm; a bone fan of similar period, the cream gauze leaf delicately painted with violet flowers, the top border of machine lace, with additional lace gathered and attached with gold metal loops to form rosettes in relief, these standing proud of the fan when closed. Adorned with a large cream silk tassel with plaited loop for closure. Guard length 14 inches or 36cm; a further fan, of bone with a cream gauze leaf, bordered with white machine lace, embroidered with silver sequins and painted with two ladies in 18th century dress, holding fans, and one gentleman, guard length 12 inches or 30.5cm; and a final fan, of bone with completely plain cream gauze leaf. Guard length 14.25 inches or 36cm (6)

. The first fan is grubby and has a repair under the upper guard, The second fan has some slight splits and nibbles to some folds and the lace needs ironing to form the rosettes, one panel having damage; the third fan has a repair at the shoulder on the upper guard, and the final fan appears unused.
