A Horn Fan, circa 1900, with attractively shaped monture, the gorge with alternating sticks, from relatively straight to shaped into decorative ovals, some gilding and colour present, the guards being equally shaped in the lower sections, two ovals being features of the upper sections, slightly larger versions of those in the gorge. The double silk leaf features seven separate scenarios, four of which show ruins or classical buildings and fountains. The three oval vignettes feature a celloist in 18th century dress, an elegant lady in a sack back robe and lace engageantes, and a shepherdess in gathered skirts and white petticoat. The verso is painted with three simple floral sprays. Guard length 9.25 inches or 23.5cm

Sold for £170
Estimated at £220 - £280

. The recto is showing some signs of wear to the silk, with one-fold slightly split at the top and an area over two folds on the left where some attempt has been made to secure the layers together. On the recto a small area of the backing fabric appears to have been nibbled by moth. Monture: nothing noted.

We cannot guarantee a reply to any requests made within 48 hours of the start of the auction. The absence of a Condition Report from a lot does not mean that the lot is in perfect condition.
