Pack was a professional soldier and writer who produced miscellaneous verse and essays on the classics, in the manner of the time. Edmund Curll appears to have published all his work. Curll, by contrast, was a bookseller, pornographer, literary pirate, writer of possibly libellous hack biographies of the newly departed, and inveterate publisher of anything he could get hold of, no matter of what sort, as long as it sold.
