Attributed to Henry Andrews (1794-1868)
Fête champêtre and a game of blind man's bluff
Oil on canvas, 86.5cm by 119cm with arched corners

Sold for £550
Estimated at £500 - £800

In an overall stable state of preservation. Covered in a thick layer of dirt and discoloured varnish. There is an area of retouching along the branches of the tree on the left hand side edge with a collection of further patches of retouching around the lower left hand corner, the stone work particularly between the two carved figures. There is general more concentrated retouching and over painting above the figure group which within the central area which extends at its widest point almost in line with the urn atop the fountain and again in line to the top of the fountain on the right hand side. The base of the pilaster on the far right has also received a similar treatment. Very slight stretcher shadow along the top edge. On inspection with the naked eye much of the restoration has deteriorated and the additional paint is heavily crazed in places. There are further areas of essentially stable craquelure within the sky with two more pronounced areas of widely spaced craquelure within the skirts of the two far right hand side figures. Odd minor surface abrasions/paint loss.
