Follower of Harry Hall (1814-1882)
Groom with white stallion in stable yard
Oil on canvas, 62cm by 75.5cm

Sold for £700
Estimated at £250 - £400

Relined, cleaned and re-varnished. Now with layer of dirt and discoloured varnish in evidence. General re-touching and overpainting to upper left hand corner and along upper left hand side edge. Further patches of re-touching and overpainting on the stable wall above the door. Within the shadows of the door itself, foreground lower left hand corner and actual left hand corner. Two further perceptible patches of retouching to the left of the standing gentleman's head and also within the upper right hand corner of the window pane above him. The largest being approx. 4cm by 3cm. General strengthening across the remaining facade of the building, the attached wall, ornamental urn and foliage to the right of this, the lower parts of the foreground in general and more widely across the grassy area within the lower right hand side and extending up into the sky etc... General rubbing to outer edges. Much of the later over-painting has deteriorated, generally evident to the eye. Fine stable craquelure throughout horse and further more widely spaced craquelure throughout larger expanses, particularly the right hand side of the picture, which is beginning to look precarious in some places.

Regarding Pictures, Prints and Works on Paper, works are not examined out of the frame, unless specifically stated. Tennants Auctioneers do not cover damage to gilded wood or plaster picture frames, or to picture frame glass whilst the item is in our possession.

We accept no liability for the opinions expressed in any Condition Report.
