L'Amitié Fraternelle: A Late-18th Century Ivory Fan with a double paper leaf, the recto portraying

L'Amitié Fraternelle: A Late-18th Century Ivory Fan with a double paper leaf, the recto portraying a charming image of a mother, father, small children and their nursemaid, the fan title being written just under this touching scene. Two small vignettes show a lady at rest in the outdoors, her small dog attempting to draw her attention, and a young boy fishing at the riverside, bringing in his catch. The verso is plain. The ivory monture is carved and pierced, and coloured quite strongly where the design features circle and swirls (which also show the carving when the closed fan is laid on the side). The central cartouche and the guards feature figures, and trophies of love including musical instruments. Guard length 10.5 inches or 26.5cm

Sold for £150
Estimated at £150 - £250

. Some small repairs to the gorge sticks, seen from the verso. Repair to the lower guard near the shoulder and the leaf beside this has a fold split. Some of the folds have been well restored at some time in the past.
