A Circa 1830's Wood and Horn Fan, the monture having wood guards dyed black, clouté with silver metal and overlaid with white mother-of-pearl. The gorge sticks, of pale horn, are lightly pierced and also clouté with silver metal. The double paper leaf is printed and hand coloured to both sides, the recto a charming scene of a family stroll in the park, a young girl being amused by play with a toy balloon, in chinoiserie style, the basket holding a live animal, possibly a monkey, and a formally dressed male doll. The fashion of the day is particularly well represented. The verso shows a gathering of hopeful young ladies beside a bethroned Cupid, pleading for his favours with offerings of flowers. Underneath the depiction is a printer's reference, "Bellville N 33". Guard length 8.5 inches or 21.5cm

Sold for £100
Estimated at £80 - £120

. The leaf has suffered, probably from humidity, as it feels dry in places. To the outer leaf, damage to the leaf where two folds may have been stuck together at some point. Seen from the verso, some old repair to the last 2 folds. Good strong colours, and the monture appears sound.
