Three Large Fans, two circa 1890, the third slightly later, the monture of tortoiseshell, the double silk leaf painted with an 18th century couple chasing butterflies in the countryside, the lady's robe à la Polonaise, her beau wearing breeches and long waistcoat and coat. The reserves are painted with swags and garlands of rose, butterflies in flight, and tokens of love. The verso, in cream silk, is plain. Contained in a cream card fan box bearing a label inside the lid for J. Duvelleroy, London, 167 Regent Street. Guard length 11.5 inches or 29.5cm. T/ a large black gauze fan, the single leaf mounted on wood stained black, perfectly plain. The leaf is half gauze, painted with a spray of yellow multi-petalled flowers and smaller blossoms in white. The upper section is formed from a panel of black machine lace of a floral design and shaped upper edge. Guard length 12.5 inches or 31.5cm. Finally, a similar fan, three quarters of the black gauze leaf embroidered with silver spangles. The final section forming a shaped top border in machine lace of floral design. Guard length 13 inches or 33cm (3)

. The first fan has slits to the recto but the verso silk is sound. Some light staining. Monture with good mottling, sound. The box is grubby but strong. The second fan is in good order, nothing noted, Fan 3 is sound with a very few spangles missing.
