Two Large Late 19th Century Fans, the first signed to the right by Ronot Tutin, a French painter who specialised in floral fan leaves. The cream gauze leaf is painted with Lily of the Valley. The monture, of dark wood, is carved and shaped in a serpentine fashion, the upper guards continuing the naturalistic theme being carved with acorns, their shells gilded to complement the gilding on the gorge. The elegant gold silk tassel is knotted and embroidered with gold threads. Together with a large black gauze fan, the leaf mounted on carved and pierced sticks, painted centrally with a bird in flight approaching flowering white blossom. The remaining leaf is applied with black machine lace, the top border possibly a bobbin border, certainly a different design. Guard length 13.5 inches or 34.5cm (2)

Sold for £150
Estimated at £80 - £120

. The Tutin has slight splitting to the gauze on the outmost fold, both sides. The second fan has a small tear to the lace, top right- hand corner.

We cannot guarantee a reply to any requests made within 48 hours of the start of the auction. The absence of a Condition Report from a lot does not mean that the lot is in perfect condition.
