A Cream Gauze Fan, circa 1900, embroidered with gold and silver spangles, the monture of green/pink

A Cream Gauze Fan, circa 1900, embroidered with gold and silver spangles, the monture of green/pink mother-of-pearl, possibly Burgau. The gauze leaf is applied in the upper section with cream silk, the design of spangles following the outline of this addition. Further spangles are added as a top border and in lines in the lower leaf section. Contained in a card fan box, the inside lid with a printed label for J Duvelleroy, By Appointment, London, 167 Regent Street. Guard length 9.5 inches or 23.5cm. Together with a gauze fan of large fontange form, the gauze leaf mounted on simple sticks coloured gold, the guards being rounded on the top surface. The leaf, in shades of pale apricot to a darker ginger, is painted with oversized leaves, veined with silver. At the lower edge, a branch painted in gold provides a perch for four birds, two leaning forward and looking to the left, two, probably the parents, looking directly at the viewer with intent. An apricot gros-grain ribbon is tied to the upper guard and one similar hangs from the simple gold metal loop. Overall height 14 inches or 35.5cm (2)

Sold for £110
Estimated at £90 - £120

. Fan 1 - Generally, very good. The upper guard appears a little clumsy down near to the rivet, perhaps not a repair but not well spliced. The cream gauze is very slightly dusty, the spangles appear to be all present. One corner of the box lid has been damaged but the box is still fit for purpose. Fan 2 - The gauze is splitting along several folds, two quitter badly, literally holding on my threads.
