. Old re-line. Covered in a thick layer of dirt and discoloured varnish. The outline and general upper area of his right hand shoulder would appear to have been overpainted/strengthened as has the general outline of his back and tendrils of his wig. Further general strengthening to the shadows and definition of his face, chin and chest area and elements of the decoration at his right hand sleeve. The weave of the canvas is apparent especially within areas of the wig and face. More evident patch of fine stable craquelure within upper arm and shoulder area. L-shaped surface scratch to approximate centre lower edge with vertical line approx 4cm in length and horizontal approx 3cm in length. Losses and rubbing to lower left and right corner and lower right hand side edge. Some impasto and brushwork still in evidence to denote lace cravat, buttoned brocade etc... Other areas somewhat flat and rubbed etc...

Regarding Pictures, Prints and Works on Paper, works are not examined out of the frame, unless specifically stated. Tennants Auctioneers do not cover damage to gilded wood or plaster picture frames, or to picture frame glass whilst the item is in our possession.
