A First World War Casualty Group of Medals, awarded to 472024 C.S. W.(Walter) LATHAM 72-CAN.INF., comprising British War Medal, Victory Medal and Canadian Memorial Cross in box of issue, together with a George V Memorial Scroll, Canadian Expeditionary Force Death Certificate, letter to his widow from the commanding officer of his platoon, War Grave details, a large family group photograph, two postcards from him to his wife Bertha, a vignette group photograph of Sergeant's Mess 65th Battalion C.E.F. Xmas 1915 in which Sergeant Latham is pictured on the bottom row, 3rd from the left, and a copy of page 116 from the Book of Remembrance for the First World War which is available for public viewing every year on March 19th in the Room of Remembrance of the Parliament of Canada Footnote:- Walter Latham was originally with the 65th Battalion C.E.F., and then transferred to the 72nd Battalion. He was killed in action, aged 28, on 16th October 1916. His Burial Report states that he is buried at Pys British Cemetery, France and is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial, Pas de Calais, France. His medals are named to a Colour Sergeant Major, but he is recorded on some of the documentation as a Corporal.
