A Second World War Group of Five Medals to VX 46919 Frederick George Beckinsall of the 2nd Australian Imperial Force (AIF), comprising 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, Defence Medal, Australia Service Medal and War Medal, all medals named and swing mounted as worn, together with a German Third Reich Pith Helmet, which he exchanged for his slouch hat and on which he proceeded to write the VX numbers of his fellow servicemen and draw pictures of the places they were serving in, including Tobruck, Benghazi, Egypt, Tel Aviv, Alexandria, Jerusalem, Alamein etc., and also scenes of pyramids, ships, aeroplanes and tanks; also, a photograph of Fred with his wife Edna on a beach, a portrait photograph of his wife, and two cabinet cards, one showing his father Joses Beckinsall (a hairdresser), the other showing his mother Isabella (nee Terrill) with his older sister Grace Sophia Footnote:- Frederick George Beckinsall was born 23rd September 1907, in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia. He served in the Second World War and then went on to be a butcher. He died 1st July 1968
