Kodiak Bear (Ursus arctos middendorffi), circa 1913, by Rowland Ward, half rug with head mount, the jaw agape, on brown felt edged canvas backing, size across forelimbs 234cm, originally purchased by the vendor as a complete specimen - Tennants Auction 02/04/2009 Lot 1117. Provenance: Laurence Cadbury Collection. Part of a collection of mounted big game trophies brought back from Alaska, North America and East Africa in 1913 and 1934 by Laurence Cadbury. Many of his specimens were mounted by Rowland Ward, and were sold by James & Lister Lea in a marquee at ''The Davids'', Hole Lane, Northfield, Birmingham 17th and 18th November 1988. This was lot 754 and was illustrated in the catalogue, where it is erroneously described as ''a large polar bear skin rug with mask mounted on baize''
