Sale Information

In 2020 the Fan Department is taking on a slightly different approach, thanks to the arrival of fans and antique accessories from a Major European Collection. The collector first concentrated on antique lace, building a collection of needlework and lace-making tools to complement lace from Europe and further afield. Fans and parasols with lace leaves and covers quickly followed. The collector then turned to embroidered and beaded accessories.
The March auction will offer some fans rarely seen on the market today. The star of the sale is a very rare 18th century figurative and heraldic needle lace example, the first of a varied collection of lace fans and parasols from the European collection.  The remaining fans, some items of antique lace, and many unusual accessories will be included in the summer Fan sale on July 2nd, reflecting the kind of items the fashionable lady might have been able to choose on a whim to complement her fan.
The March sale will include perfume and other advertising fans, uncommon late 18th and early 19th century fans from another vendor, a full range of 19th century fans , and unique novelty fans from the 20th century created and exhibited by a Northern crafts person. The Chinese section will offer good varied examples ranging from those made from filigree metal with enamel decoration, to tortoiseshell and rare mother of pearl brisés.
