Sale Information

Online auction with an auctioneer.

A good selection of approximately 140 works on paper and oil paintings from the 17th Century to mid-20th century and charts the classic categories of landscape, marine, genre, portraits, and sill life painting. The sale boasts a significant collection of paintings by British Impressionist artists such as Alexander Jamieson, and Harry Fidler, in addition to a highly impressive and important rendition by Bertram Priestman depicting Buckden Bridge. Other fine marine examples by Yorkshire artists include paintings by Mark Senior and Herbert Royle. Further 19th and 20th century marine and landscape renditions from the region and wider Continent are represented by the likes of William Mellor, Kershaw Schofield, Johan Frederick Cornelis Scherrewitz, Adolf Stademan and Aloysius O’Kelly to name but a few. The historical portrait section includes an interesting portrayal of the French English engraver Peter Vanderbank from the Circle of Sir Godfrey Kneller, amongst several others, and a variety of still lifes from the 17th century to 20th century illustrate the development of the genre throughout the ages.
